Sugar Land, Texas State Vehicle Inspections
All gasoline vehicles, 2-24 years old, registered in Fort Bend, Harris, Brazoria, Montgomery and Galveston counties are required to undergo an emissions test as part of their annual Texas State Vehicle Inspection. You must have your vehicle checked within the month the inspection sticker expires. However, there is a five day grace period at the beginning of the following month.
Other items inspected as part of the safety inspection:
- Proof of current liability insurance
- Vehicle horn
- Windshield wipers
- Mirror, must have at least one rearview
- Steering
- Brake function, including parking brake
- Tires/wheels
- Exhaust system
- Beam indicator (head lamp)
- Tail lamps and lenses
- Brake lamps and lenses
- License plate lamp
- Rear red reflectors
- Turn signal lamps and lenses
- Head lamps and lenses
- Motor, serial or V.I.N. number
- Window tinting
- Gas cap
Fees for TX State Vehicle Inspections are as follows:
- $39.75 for state motor vehicle safety/emission stickers
- $14.00 for safety only stickers, these apply primarily to diesel vehicles
- $1.00 for a “green sheet” that out of state vehicles must have along with an inspection sticker to be registered in Texas
Most inspections take about 30 minutes to complete. Inspection hours are from 7 am – 6 pm, Monday through Friday. We offer two inspection bays and two full-time inspectors to minimize your wait time.
If your vehicle fails the inspection, you have 15 days to fix the problems and have your vehicle inspected again. This incurs no additional fee.
If your “check engine” light, “service engine soon” light or malfunction indicator lamp are on, your vehicle will immediately fail the inspection.
